CERTIFICATIONS

Members have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR) course offered through NASAR (National Association for Search and Rescue). The 47-hour course provides knowledge regarding responsibilities, skills, and equipment required for field-ready SAR personnel assigned to operations during a search call. Passing the written exam earns a SAT-TECH III status. A field practical exam followed which consisted of six stations where the evaluated search and rescue skills included: Land Navigation, Tracking, 24-Hour Pack, Rope Skills, Route Search, and Area Search. Passing the field practical earns a SAR-TECH II status.

K-9 S.O.S. dog teams are currently certified through both IPWDA (International Police work Dog Association) and NAPWDA (North American Work Dog Association). Our team has dogs certified in Trailing, Wilderness Search (Air Scenting) and HRD (Human Remains Detection) including buried sources, sources on the ground's surface, in buildings, in vehicles, in rubble, and in water.
